the writers workshop¤
we're going to run a writers workshop again. im so excited to see what people make!
this document synthesizes new and old thoughts about lessons in writing computational literature. writing is hard and in this course we do it together! each course is experiential art.
overview¤
the writers workshop teaches a modern style of literate programming in computational notebooks. the course focuses on practicing and evolving one's style and confidence in writing computational literature. we explore histories of computing, art, and hypermedia to appreciate how we can blend modern tools to tell emergent stories.
this course is for beginner, novice, and skilled programmers; anyone who aspires to write content for themselves and others. it will build confidence by sharing and performing their work. further, this course supports and improves language skills for folx who experience english as a second language.
the course takes a diachronic of computation to discuss how history affects our current position. we synthesize these histories to understand how we can craft and create with computation. An overflow of the course follows * the history computing, open source, and art to appreciate the creative endeavor of writing literate programs * collaging hypermedia to tell computational narratives * understand how open source provides resources to amplify our voices * begin our journey toward personal styling and branding
together we'll create and affirm each other's interests. as a group, we'll create a 'zine of our collective works with a virtual release event where participants can share their work. We’ll send a printed zine to each member of the course and we’ll say 25/50 copies online. All members of the cohort with share authorship of a DOI
the goal of making media¤
the goal of the cohort is make a lot of media and find them selves in different media.
- Class repository/codespace
- Weekly course video x 6
- Clips from weekly videos shared on social x 6 x clips per week
- Weekly course homeworks x participants
- Virtual zine x variants
- Virtual release party video x 1
- Printed zines x 25/50
- Clothing?
each individual will create several original works and write a bio for themselves.
